New Zealand > Waikato, Coromandel & King
Country Region
By Jessica Lloyd
The Waikato region includes many towns and settlements and a large portion
of New Zealand’s prime farmland. It is in the central North Island (south of
Auckland), and is the main agricultural area of New Zealand. With green
grass stretching from coast to coast, the Waikato area has the largest
concentration of farm animals per hectare in the world.
There are a few tourist attractions in the area, and it is a popular place
to visit. The Waikato Region is not generally well known for being thrilling
and exciting, but it does provide some very interesting places to stop over.
The Waikato River is the longest in New Zealand, and supplies most of the
North Islands power. Hamilton is the ‘garden
city’ centrepiece, and the only city in the area and is located on the banks
of the Waikato river.
To the north, is the Coromandel Peninsula has great beaches, marine reserves, magical forests and laid
back lifestyles.
To the south there are green hills and forests where
you will find the Waitomo glow worm caves and on the west coast the surf
beaches are popular.
