New Zealand > Sports

For such a small country, New Zealand has a reputation as being a sporting nation on and off the field and has proven it has what it takes to compete at the highest level in one of the worlds most expensive and competitive sports.

Rugby is the most well known of New Zealand's national sports and the national team, "The All Blacks" dominated world rugby for many years. Netball is regarded as the premier women’s sport and one of the country’s top sports, with over 120,000 registered members, and a number of players who are involved socially.

All of our cities have a wide variety of recreation facilities, excellent swimming pools and gymnasiums. Christchurch has an 19 hole golf course within a few minutes walk of most major central city hotels. Although not quite up to formula one, New Zealand has a wide range of motor sports. Skiing is from June to September and there are many ski fields in the country.

For the thrill seeker you can jump off a mountain on a hang glider or paraglide, bungee jump off a high tower or bridge, raft down wild rivers. Even go hot air ballooning.

Paragliding
When it's winter in the northern hemisphere, it's summer in New Zealand. That means long sunny days, blue skies and lots of great scenic flying. New Zealand is now one of the world's favorite travel destinations, and one of the great undiscovered flying destinations. Only in New Zealand you can enjoy coastal ridge soaring and mountain thermal flights on the same day.

Kayaking; Paddle some of the most beautiful rivers and lakes in the world, or take a coastal ocean route. Routes Suitable for all skill levels from beginners to competent multi-sporters.

Bungee Jumping - Tie your ankles to an extra large rubber band, and jump off a bridge or other high platform see some pics on this site, home to NZ's first bungee operator Aj Hackett

Scuba Diving.

Base Jumping - Jet boating - fishing, sea, river and lake - hunting - Golf, Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Wilderness Adventures...
