Arrowtown
Arrowtown is a restored goldfields
township with a range of attractions including scenic walkways where you can see
how the miners lived and worked.
Gold in was found in the Arrow River In 1862 by a farm hand and Arrowtown
quickly developed from a shanty town into a solid community. The gold has
long gone and today Arrowtown has now become a center of southern
hospitality. There is a good selection of
shops, cafe's and accommodation.
Arrowtown has a permanent population of about 1700 and the township has a
range of amenities including, a library, an excellent museum where you can
discover more of the local history, a swimming pool, several golf courses, a
medical centre, a hospital, several winter ski fields and an ice rink.
A scene from the movie trilogy,
"The Lords of The Rings" was filmed here, (The
charge of the Dark Riders through the Arrow River).

Getting There:
25 minutes drive from Queenstown, 40 minutes to Cromwell through the Kawerau
gorge and the Hacket Bungy jump, or allow an hour for the high road via
Cardrona to Wanaka. Queenstown airport is nearby.
