Two Halves of the Whole
New Zealand is broken in two, but not evenly. The North Island, on top, is smaller but has a much larger population by far with nearly three million people. On the beauty scales, the North Island is considered to be different, in places just as beautiful, but not quite as stunning as the South. With a considerable portion of the North used for farming, the landscape is often fenced-off paddocks with animals grazing. This is not to say that the North does not hold many of the most serene and beautiful landscapes, nor that it lacks natural wonders. It does. You just have to dig deeper and drive further to see them.
