Key West is the most southern point just 90 miles from Cuba and 150 miles
from Miami, and it is reputed for having more bars and churches per head of
population than any other US region. Being far from anywhere Key West has a
fascinating mix of history, eccentricity and lush island charm. In short, a
charming escapade on the Florida Keys, the string of small islands now
connected by highway US.1, and reputed to be the most scenic drive in the
nation as it passes through Marathon, Islamorada, Big Pine Key, Key Largo
from Miami.
Miami is renowned as a retirement center with miles of white sandy
beaches and waterways. Homestead or Florida City, is only 10 miles from the
Everglades National Park, a World Heritage Site of wetlands, with
alligators and the rare American crocodile and waterbirds of all
descriptions.
The east coast from Miami up through Fort Lauderdale, Palm beach Ft
Pierce, Cocoa Beach, Daytona, Palm Coast, St Augustine and Jacksonville are
all popular destinations with a great variety of activities.
Inland
near Orlando there are hundreds of lakes renowned for bass fishing as well
as boating and watersports.
Tampa is the largest city home to the region's top attractions including
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, museums and an excellent variety of nightlife.
The most western city in Florida is Pensacola, the location of North
America's first European settlement, where the Spanish colonists arrived
1559. Nearby is the Naval Air Station and National Museum of Naval Aviation
which hosts the
Blue Angels Air Show each November.
