Safety in Great Britain
The UK is well protected by British security forces who
are very experienced in counter terrorism having defended against bombings
by Irish extremists for many years and despite the bombings of July 2005, the country
is relatively safe to visit. As the Olympic Games draw near, it is probable
that attempts to disrupt the games will be made and be prepared that if
anything does happen, don't panic.
Staying safe is about taking sensible precautions and it
is more likely that you will get your pocket picked than anything serious
happen. As with all countries where there is poverty and injustice,
there will be some crime. Fortunately the UK can no longer export it's petty
criminals as it did over the past few hundred years where many were shipped
to Australia. The most common crime at the time was stealing food simply to
stay alive.
Tips:
Avoid ostentatious displays of wealth
Store valuables in your hotel safe
Keep up with the latest local news
Avoid London transport during rush hours.
