Singapore
The Republic of Singapore is a
small island state of 683 square kilometers
just off the southern tip of the Malay peninsula and being close to the
equator, is always warm and humid with temperatures between 23°C and 31°C
year around.
A regional center of commerce,
Singapore is a place for trading and business conferences as well as a
stopover point for over the six million or so visitors per year who now come
more so to be entertained rather than it being just a transition point to
stop and change aircraft on route to other destinations. If you are just
changing planes, take one of the short tours that operate from Changi
Airport.
Singapore is a country that has
merged the best from rich cultures and modern worlds, contemporary
sophistication and colourful traditions. It has a strict reputation for
cleanliness and you will be fined for dropping cigarette butts or any
trash in public places, and men must have their hair cut neatly above

Aside from the shopping,
recreation can involve walking or cycling the nature trails. As
the oceans are to polluted to swim, make use of your hotel pool or use
the excellent public swimming complexes. Windsurfing and sailing
are popular and you can hire equipment. There are many golf courses,
though some are open to members and some will allow visitors to play on
week days. Tennis and squash facilities are also readily available.
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB)
has launched a new destination brand called
"Uniquely Singapore" - to promote Singapore's distinctive features
as a city and country. So when you visit look out for this logo for the most
up to date tourist information.
