Romania > TV

As a result of several requests made (over the years) by most Romanians living in Australia and New Zealand, the Romanian Public Television is officially starting from July 1st, its FREE broadcasting for this area.

All costs incurred for receiving the signal reffer only to purchasing the satellite dish as the broadcast is uncoded.
The transmission is Direct To Home ( DTH ) type, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Different reports have shown that the majority of Romanian communities are generally located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, but also in cities like Canberra, Darwin or Hobart. As for New Zealand, Romanians are mostly grouped in the areas of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch cities.

All of them now will be able to be in direct contact with their native country, receiving the special programs prepared by the Romanian Public Television especially for them: news, latest events, talk-shows, entertainment, documentaries, movies, theatre plays, concerts, sport, all these and many more programs will address to a large audience, targeting mainly the young and active population. On daily basis there will be live broadcasted shows, as well as interractive programs on subjects of real interest for the audience.

On December 1st, 1995, TVR International was starting as the first national Romanian TV station with satellite broadcast for Romanian speakers living abroad, and since then it grew constantly, so that at present TVRi is the most important broadcaster of programs in Romanian and English languages addressing mainly the international audience from five continents, but also to the national one.

Broadcasting 24 hours a day, TVRi offers a large variety of programs, own productions as well as a top selection from the other 3 national TV channels: TVR 1, TVR 2 and TVR Cultural. In time, TVRi became a multicultural and interactive station, also interested in reflecting the new position of Romanians abroad within the cultural “concert” of the adoptive countries. The newest programs are also broadcasted on Internet, as an alternative source of information in those countries where TVRi cannot be received by sattelite yet.

The start of broadcast for Australia and New Zealand has created in the channel\'s program grid a third prime-time slot after the ones for Europe and North America. Thus, the shows broadcasted by TVRi between 8,00-14,00 hrs (Romanian time) will be mainly dedicated to the audience from Australia and New Zealand.

The technical data for receiving TVRi are: satellite OPTUS B3 / 152,0 o EST / Transponder 5, Receiving Frequency: 12 525 ; Hz , polarization: vertical, SR: 30,000 Msymb/s ; FEC: 2/3.
