An Island Nation Arguments
persist as to how many islands there are in the Philippines, but the
estimate is about 7000+. That means there are miles of white sand
beaches and many great surfing beaches. The nation is rich in
history, there was trade and migration between neighbouring
islands and countries prior to the Spanish arrival in 1521. The
Spanish moved in and successfully converted almost the entire
population to Catholicism and today Philippine costume reflects
colonial Spanish dress.
After world war 2, the Philippines became an American dependency
(USA) and although independent, the US influence is very strong. As
such, the country has been plagued by political and criminal
corruption but by contrast the people are very friendly and a great
many are also very poor. Foreign aide agencies pour in resources to
help the poor and in recent years, the Philippine government has
also been doing more, but slums abound and there are many beggars on
the streets.
The southern Islands of Mindinao are considered unsafe due to the
activities of Muslim extremists who use killing, kidnapping and
extortion as part of their tactics for and independent Islamic
state.

This service enables them to make relationships world wide.
Entertainment The
cities have a vibrant nightlife with mix of traditional Philippine
or medieval Spanish entertainment and the bars of Manila were made
famous and grew due to the American influence and the poverty which
still sees pretty girls flowing from the countryside to work as
dancers and escorts.
Transportation
Unlike much of Asia, transportation is not cheap. In the cities
there are many taxis, but jeepnies are still the main form of
transportation for people and goods. Over the last 60 years the
jeepny has evolved in to an art and is a source of pride for both
the passengers and the owners all across the Philippines although
for tall Westerners, they often lack headroom.
Philippine busses and airlines ply routes between most cities, but
ferries sinking often feature in the media and are not recommended.
For land travel often the most comfortable method is to hire a
car/minibus and driver.
