Malaysia

The Malay peninsula extends down to the south of Thailand, and the provinces of Sabah and Sarawak on the northern coast of Borneo are also administered by Malaysia. A predominantly Islamic country once a colony of the British Empire Malaysia today is a prosperous independent nation.

While Malaysia serves as an overland route between Thailand and Singapore, Singapore is just off the southern tip and connected by a road bridge, There is much to see and do.

The east coast has some excellent beaches and space to relax while the east coast is more commercial and here you find Kuala Lumpur and Penang Island.

Kuala Lumpur - famous for the Petronis Towers which are tapering twin towers (connected by a sky bridge) share an Islamic-influenced geometrically polygonal plan. Featured extensively in the action movie "Entrapment", starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones. At 1483 feet (452m) tall the Petronis Towers were the tallest building in the world at the date of its completion.

Penang - An island connected to the mainland by rail and road bridge was once infamous for it's opium smokers, Penang today is beginning to modernise although much of the old character remains. Penang has the best of the west coast beaches. Here you will also find small fishing villages, forest and nature walks.

The Cameron Highlands - Up in the rain forest, the Cameron Highlands provide cool relief from the lowland heat.
