The Love Parade
Berlin's
annual highlight event, an R18 street techno dance party/rave will be
held on July 15th 2006.
The largest party of the world will once again take place with an anticipated one million people attending.
The love parade route
runs past the Angel of Peace monument in the centre of Tiergarten and
Brandenburg Gate and will feature international electronic dance music
with DJ's from many countries.
The 2004 parade had the motto "Love Rules" to practice and share the
love, peace, respect and tolerance which is most desirable. With the the
message there is a great deal of fun, partying, beer, designer drugs and
attractive bare skin on show, with up to 250 DJs and approximately 50
floats..
The
event was
first held as a demonstration of tolerance, love and respect between
nations in 1989 when about 150 friends paraded and danced along West
Berlin's main shopping street with one float and over the years has
become one of Berlin's premier events.
Due bankruptcy, the 2006 parade was cancelled, however
Germany will revive its famous Love Parade this
summer after a corporate sponsor McFit stepped in to save thay day.
The
parade has opponents though the Mayor is reported as being keen to keep
it running as it is good for business drawing crowds of international
tourists, performers and party goers from all over the world as well as
local residents. There are now similar events in Austria, Israel, South
Africa, and the UK.
Dr. Motte,
the pseudonym of Love Parade founder and organiser Matthias Roeingh, said he expected around 1 million techno fans to converge on
the German capital to gyrate to the beat of electronic music during the
weekend of July 15 - six days after the 2006 soccer World Cup ends.
