The State Capital of Tasmania, Hobart is a popular tourist destination.
Hobart
is a very picturesque city of around 180,000
people and is Tasmania's state capital
situated on the shores of the Derwent River. It is a very cosmopolitan
harbour-side city. The harbour is this
city's focal point, conveniently near to
remnants of the old city with the narrow
lanes of Battery Point, and the many
character colonial cottages. A must see
is Salamanca Place, a picturesque row
of sandstone warehouses dating back to
Hobart's days as a whaling base and now home
to many galleries, pubs, cafes, and the
Salamanca Saturday markets. Next to Sydney it is the second
oldest city in Australia and was founded by
convict settlers in 1804.
On Saturdays, Salamanca comes alive with the
famous Salamanca Market with over 300 stalls selling produce and crafts from
all over Tasmania. The

remember about your visit to Tasmania and one must

zoodoo, an unusual animal park at
Richmond, about a 1/2 hour drive north of
