From the underground
opal mining town of Coober Pedy in the
Outback where you can search for precious
opals in this rugged desert region, to the
vineyards of the McLaren Vale Wine district
and Barossa Valley for some of country's
finest wines, or house boating on the Murray
River. You will find a wide range of
activities for both the family and intrepid
explorers.
Adelaide is the state
capital and is a city of about one million
people with well planned streets which
charmingly display the special
characteristics of the architecture and
gardens and give the city distinction
amongst the Australian cities and serves as
a stopover point on the long drive from the
east and west coasts.
Attractions in the city
include the Warrawong Sanctuary a small block
of rehabilitated Australian bush,
reintroduced animals of the Adelaide Hills
and 50,000 native plants make a dawn walk,
daytime walk, or nocturnal walk and really
discover the Australian bush at its natural
best. There are also Zoological Gardens, The
Art Gallery of South Australia, The Tate
Museum, The South Australian Museum, The
South Australian Police Museum, South
Australia's Theatre Museum, The State History
Centre and the Old Treasury Building Museum
You will find
spectacular coastlines with excellent fishing
and surfing on the Eyre Peninsula and the
Yorke Peninsula. If you are looking for some adventure visit
remote Kangaroo Island or explore subterranean caves, sinkholes and
extinct volcanoes.
The coastal
climate is moderate, and frosts are rare, the interior is
more extreme as you will discover on the trip north to Uluru
and the Northern
Territory.
