Mt Lyford is a newly developing
village in the North Canterbury foothills and
features many log cabins & homes. It
is well known as a ski area with horse trekking,
jet boating, bush walking and other outdoor
activities.
The new Mt Lyford Lodge
provides a centre for social activity with a range of
accommodation & campervan parks. Built from logs,
this spacious building is worth a stop to note the
architectural style and the spacious interior. Other
accommodation is available in rented cabins and homes
in the area.
Ski
access is by an 8km long gravel road which
winds up through Beach Forest and into the alpine
terrain to the Terako Basin car park. Access onto
the fields is by poma's, platters, fixed grip tow
lines. Access to other areas is by helicopter.

Springs (60km)
this drive is a relaxing alternative avoiding some of
the busy highway one from Kaikoura to Christchurch
(146km).Get there by tour,
bus, or self drive.
