New Zealand > Bay of Plenty

With bountiful sunshine and a balmy climate to welcome you, your visit will be a memorable one. From untouched rainforests and sub-tropical farmlands to the pleasures of the street-side eateries or the pure white sands of the coast you will find that the Bay of Plenty is aptly named. It is a land blessed by nature where abundant green lands meet the clear blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.

The sunny climate is ideal for growing avocados, grapes, kiwifruit, citrus and other subtropical fruits for which the region is famous. Together with timber, paper and dairy products, fruit is exported through the Port of Tauranga, the largest export port in New Zealand and the commercial centre of the area.

The Bay of Plenty is one of the most scenic and diverse areas in New Zealand, with sightseeing, activities and interests galore. Visitors to New Zealand are hard-pressed not to spend most of their time here and neglect seeing the rest of the country once they realise just how much this area has too offer. The region includes New Zealand's most active geo-thermal area with Rotorua being New Zealand's most popular tourist attraction. Just 50 kms off the coast is White Island, an active volcano which erupts daily. Sightseeing flights over White Island are a must with some flights also taking in the three volcanoes in the Tongariro National Park and Mt Tarawera.

The stunning beauty of the scenery is teamed with the abundance of activities just waiting for you to discover. What is your pleasure? Is it lazing in hot pools, parasailing, bush adventures and the back-to-nature experience of a wild life sanctuary, parasailing or the adrenalin rush of a bungy rocket.

Maybe you are into surfing? Then Waihi Beach to Cape Runaway, along the Pacific Coastal Highway offers marvellous surf beaches with perhaps Mount Maunganui beach being the most sought after.

However if big game fishing is what you are after then the whole bay offers excellent waters with Mayor Island being a world-renowned base. Marlin, tuna, snapper, terakihi, kingfish, shark and hapuka are all to be found and caught by anglers and some of the world's game fishing records have been made right here in the bay.

Or maybe a winery experience with the superb cuisine of the Mills Reef Winery & Restaurant is to your taste. So much to see, so much to do! Whatever your interest just select your activity and have the encounter of a lifetime.
