Throughout New Zealand you will find a wide variety of motels, some hardly changed since construction back in the 50's, others beautifully appointed with great views.

The newer single units tend to have a large double bed, mini kitchen (great for a quick coffee and toast before you head off on the days adventure) and bathroom. The older units were designed to cater for families with a well equipped kitchen for making main meals.

In winter you may have to ask for an extra blanket and I have found it handy to carry one, as the bedding provided is sometimes insufficient. Room heating is generally by wall mounted fan heaters which are rather noisy.

Prices range from around NZ$40.00 per person per night to plus $100.00. Standards and levels of service vary widely depending on price and location.
